Modern Filipiniana

Modern Filipiniana

June 12 marks the Independence Day for the Philippines and to commemorate this, we wanted to do a playful, summery take on the Filipiniana attire.

The Baro’t Saya, comes from the Tagalong words "barot at saya" or "blouse and skirt," still the basic components of the ensemble. Like it’s masculine counter part, the blouse is traditionally made from pineapple cloth, which is an indigenous textile of the Philippines.

Hoo Boy! It’s sure does feel a lot like summer here in Seattle and when you live in 300 days of rain and grey, a little bit of sun will get you right into the swing of things. Nothing gets you in the mood for summer vibin' more than a good colorful Hawaiian shirt styled with some city casual wear classics such as a pair boyfriend fit denims, sling-back leather loafers and sleek sunnies.

OUR FIRST POST!

We did it! We finally took the plunge and decided to start our blog. We've been talking about it together for quite sometime now but life and commitments has prevented us from moving forward. Despite some hesitance, we decided to make it like NIKE and Just DO IT.

SO, WHY START A BLOG?

We believe that each story is unique but we hope this blog can be an avenue for people to learn and connect in the same way we've experienced through our other online communities. When we first started sharing our story on instagram, it was mostly to have a creative outlet for the both of us and a way to be able to spend time together. But organically, we've met some truly amazing people along the way - likeminded parents and individuals that celebrate kindness and human diversity. When we we're going through the process of getting diagnosed, we found such an enormous in this community - comprised of people whom we've never even met in person but have cared so deeply and genuinely about our struggles and tiny victories.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?

Great question! We hope to be able to show our point views in a few different aspects that we are passionate about. We hope to share some of our takes on fashion styling, life hacks, technologies we've tried and tested, details on our travel and more. We'd love to hear your input about what you'd like to see us cover!

IS NEELA REALLY GOING TO BE A PART OF THIS?

Absolutely. In fact, don't be surprised if you see some obscure review about some 1970s japanese version of Spiderman or weird candy toilets. Because, well, Neela. :)
